The Challenge
Amatheon Agri N.V., a European agribusiness firm with operations across East and Southern Africa, needed to develop three loan proposals cumulatively worth US$100 million to secure funding from a leading African multilateral bank, for its medium-term expansion strategy in the continent.
Each loan was for a different sector and country: grass-fed beef processing in Zimbabwe, irrigation infrastructure development in Zambia, and greenhouse farming in Nigeria. On a tight deadline, Amatheon needed support in developing a customised proposal for each country that presented the business model and its commercial attractiveness in detail and highlighted the resulting social benefits.
Our Approach
- Reviewed the bank’s requirements and designed a proposal structure accordingly, in conjunction with the client’s input.
- Collaborated extensively with the client’s senior management to extract, organise, and analyse all relevant internal information.
- Drafted three distinct credit proposals, combining in-depth financial and market analysis, crafted to make each opportunity highly compelling.
- Conducted extensive external background research on the relevant sector in each country to inform the three respective business plans.
What We Delivered
- After an initial favourable review, the bank started the next step in the process, i.e. initial due diligence.
- Loan applications for the Zimbabwe and Zambia projects (cumulatively worth US$80 million) were granted preliminary approval, with detailed due diligence currently being carried out.
- Amatheon is utilising proposal slide decks created by us to initiate discussions with other multilateral banks and institutional investors.
